Two Gun Control Bills Shot Down

February 21, 2025 / NHWomen / Uncategorized

On Thursday, the full New Hampshire House of Representatives shot down two gun control bills that were voted Inexpedient to Legislate out of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.

House Bill 56

The first bill was HB 56requiring a background check and mandatory waiting period during certain firearm transfers. If you recall:

The out-of-state gun control lobbyists are trying to outdo themselves with this one. They’ve taken two gun control measures that continually fail to pass and are wrapping them into one.

The bill included a mandatory waiting period for getting your firearm after being cleared by the government TO get your firearm and ‘background checks’ that would make gun safety training almost impossible for Granite Staters TO get gun safety training.

This bill was voted Inexpedient to Legislative by a vote of 216-154. You can find out how YOUR representative voted here.

House Bill 352

The second bill was HB 352prohibiting possession of a firearm at a polling place. If you recall:

Everyone, other than law enforcement of course, will be banned from practicing their fundamental human right to self-defense simply because they want to practice their right to vote. You read the correctly. This bill wants to take away a protected right so you can practice a different protected right. And if you don’t want to abide by this draconian and unconstitutional law, you can just vote via absentee ballot.”

This bill was also voted Inexpedient to Legislate by a vote of 211-161. You can find out how YOUR representatives voted here.

It’s thanks to all of your calls, emails, and opposition sign-ins that made this possible. You can see the breakdown of which party voted to keep your 2nd Amendment rights intact in the charts above. This is why elections do matter.

There are still two more gun control bills in the legislature – both gun confiscation bills – HB 159 and SB 144. HB 159 will have an executive session on February 26th. SB 144 will have an upcoming executive session within the next few weeks, we’ll continue to update you so you can take action.
