UPDATED – Gun Control Bill Seeks to Suppress Voting Rights
UPDATE – This bill was voted ‘Inexpedient to Legislate’ by the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee along party lines. It will now go to the full House for a vote.
The hearing for this gun control bill is on January 30th at noon in the Legislative Office Building, rooms 202-204.
Once again, the out-of-state gun control lobby is pushing another draconian gun control bill in one of the SAFEST STATES in the country – House Bill 352 – An act prohibiting the possession of a firearm at a polling place.
Everyone, other than law enforcement of course, will be banned from practicing their fundamental human right to self-defense simply because they want to practice their right to vote. You read the correctly. This bill wants to take away a protected right so you can practice a different protected right. And if you don’t want to abide by this draconian and unconstitutional law, you can just vote via absentee ballot.
No, it doesn’t make sense, but no gun control laws ever do.
Enabling Criminals & Victimizing the Law-abiding
Basically, this bill is designed to let criminals know that polling places will be ‘gun free zones’ so no law-abiding citizens will be available to stop anyone who seeks to inflict harm.
This is especially egregious to women who may carry because they have a stalker or fled an abusive relationship and choose to protect themselves. Everyone knows that a restraining order is just a piece of paper that only helps with punishment AFTER it’s been violated. And often, it’s too late.
What can you do?
SHOW UP at the hearing. You don’t have to testify. You can sign in and show your opposition by being there. The gun control crowd spent over $1 MILLION to push gun control last session. YOUR presence helps negate their out-of-state money.
