This “Newbie Shoot for Kids” class is intended for children to learn a basic introduction to firearms safety\, handling\, and shooting.  The class is a great starting point for learning safe handling and shooting skills\, by incorporating detailed classroom teaching\, hands-on drills\, and range instruction.  We have women NRA-certified instructors\, who will be one on one with your child\, and NRA-certified Range Safety Officers who will provide a safe environment. This class is limited in size to make sure we provide thorough instruction\, maximum range time\, and a safe experience. \nThe Newbie Shoot for Kids is open to League members’ children only (girls and boys)\, ages as young as 8 or 10 up to age 17.  Please use your discretion on whether you think your child is responsible enough to take this under their belt. Parents must be present with their child during the classroom instruction and out on the range. \nAll participants in our Newbie Shoot for Kids class will use a .22 caliber pistol and ammo that we provide.  We even have a couple of cricket rifles made especially for teaching children. This is to help new shooters become comfortable and build on success. We will also provide eye and ear protection for children who do not have any\, but we only have limited sets available for parents.  If you have your own\, please bring them for your child\, and for yourself. \nPlease wear appropriate attire — closed-toe shoes and full-coverage shirts. A brimmed hat such as a baseball hat is recommended\, but not required at this range. Hot brass can be very uncomfortable and present a safety hazard when it hits bare skin. We are the only organization in the state that offers women-only classes entirely taught by women instructors and range support. \nOur upcoming class is on Saturday\, June 9th from 8:00am (starting promptly at 8:30am) to 5:00pm. It will be held at Londonderry Fish & Game at 5 Lund Street in Litchfield. Drive through the gates around to the metal building on the left. \nThe NRA Basic Pistol Course is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA affiliation. This course is a minimum of 8 hours and includes classroom instruction and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. This is an instructor-led program and is not a blended training course. \nStudents learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from a bench rest position and two-handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; pistol selection and storage; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will also complete live-fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range. A NRA Certificate will be issued upon satisfactory completion of this course. \nAll participants must prepay to reserve their seat. The fee for non-members is $85 and for League members it is $60. We are the only organization in the state that offers women-only classes entirely taught by women instructors and range support. \nOur upcoming class is on Saturday\, April 14th from 8:00am (starting promptly at 8:30am) to 5:00pm. It will be held at Londonderry Fish & Game at 5 Lund Street in Litchfield. Drive through the gates around to the metal building on the left. \nThe NRA Basic Pistol Course is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA affiliation. This course is a minimum of 8 hours and includes classroom instruction and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. This is an instructor-led program and is not a blended training course. \nStudents learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from a bench rest position and two-handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; pistol selection and storage; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will also complete live-fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range. A NRA Certificate will be issued upon satisfactory completion of this course. \nAll participants must prepay to reserve their seat. The fee for non-members is $85 and for League members it is $60. When not on the range\, students will have the opportunity to work with an interactive simulator. It’s going to be a fun and informative event. \nThe event is being taught by our friend and multi-discipline instructor\, Al MacArthur\, Jr. \nEQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: Attendees must bring their own firearm\, a sturdy\, non-collapsing\, holster which is worn outside the pants\, a minimum of 2 magazines\, 100 rounds of ammunition\, eye & ear protection and a baseball hat. All ladies who are new to our League classes must first participate in our New Shooters Intro Class before qualifying for additional firearms events. We have women NRA-certified instructors and NRA-certified Range Safety Officers to provide a safe environment. \nThe New Shooters Intro Classes are open to League members and guests. All non-members are required to pre-register as a Member for a Day. Walk-ins are not accepted. All participants in our New Shooters Intro Class will use a .22 caliber pistol and ammo that we provide.
